The whole time I've been in Sydney, all I've wanted to do is go on a nice, long road ride and little did I know, I'd do just that on Saturday. So far, I've done a few spins with new friends and it's been great. When Adam from CycleEXIF offered to take me to Wollongong to see Tarn and Meg at Primate Frames, I got excited. A quick look on the map showed it was at least 60 miles down the coast from Sydney. We chatted and I misunderstood Adam's description, thinking we'd be on a ferry for most of the way, I showed up in sneakers on my road pedals, Dickies and a black shirt, toting 20 lbs or so of camera equipment on my back. Boy was I in for a surprise, and a sun burn.

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I've been to Philly and yet, I've seen Tom and Tony more in that year than my own family. In many ways, those dudes are my family. They've been my best friends for what feels like forever and whether people realize it or not, are very responsible for fixed freestyle. Hell, Philly in general is the birthplace of the current state of fixed freestyle. Nostalgia aside, I had a blast today hanging out with the guys.

Saturday was the first longer ride I had been on since my tour. No matter how busy I am, I'll always make it out for at least an hour each day. We're lucky here. Just southwest of the city are some gnarly hill loops and while they're no feat individually, when you string them together, back to back, you can quickly add up a lot of elevation. Each 10 mile loop is approximately 1,000' of elevation so even if I only have an hour to ride, I know I can get my heart rate up. With the temperatures finally dropping a bit, Jon and I took off for a 50 mile hill loop and this time, I brought my T4 with me.

Yesterday was a blast. Aside from the 100 degree temperatures, I wouldn't change a thing. Tony, Puckett and I went down to San Marcos to ride with AJ. He's always trying to get us down there and every time I end up rolling through, I have a great time and yesterday was no exception. We ended the day by making a splash. Yes, that's my P-Fix!

As Seen on FYXO
Are you guys tired of seeing this cunt on the blog yet? Well, too bad! Last Friday, I pre-rode the 2011 Melburn Roobaix course with Mr. Track Cunt himself, Andy White of Fyxomatosis. We planned on doing a video and a photo series, so unbeknownst to where we would be riding, I brought along my full photo bag. Little did I know that we'd be doing the whole course and then some.

After my road ride with Fyxo, I thought for sure it would be my most memorable experience down under. Monday was a national holiday here in Melbourne. Something to do with the queen, I dunno. When Andy and Dan's original plan for a 3 day cross ride to the wilderness was thwarted by snow, we decided to do a one day cross ride. With Dan leading, we put our lives and our inner tubes in his hands as we set out from the CBD of Melbourne.

Last Friday I took the train out to Andy from Fyxomatosis' farm. We had planned on doing a road ride, regardless of the weather and although the forecast called for rain and cold temperatures at King Lake, we decided to trek out anyway. Knowing that we ride the same size road bike, Andy leant me his MX-Leader with Campy 10 and after a quick brekkie cooked by his lovely wife, we headed out in search of climbs, descents and animals.

Where do I begin with Mr. Andy White? For starters, he went to college in my home state of NC, lived in Canada, messengered in NYC, SF and now lives in Melbourne where he infects the world with Fyxomatosis. Over the years, my red bearded bretheren and I have hung out in the streets of Japan and over beer and burgers in NYC. Neither one of us ever thought I'd make it to Melbourne but alas, I'm here. Yesterday I chased Andy around on his lovely Llewellyn MAX roadie while he ran errands and got his coffee FYX.

Hot damn! What a day. After getting over severe jet lag, I woke up, built up my bike and headed to Saint Cloud in Melbourne to meet up with the local fixed freestyle dudes. About 12 guys showed up and we rode out to a spot just north of the city under the highway. It was a drainage ditch that spanned for miles and it had a couple of rad little cuts and hips you could hit. One of the riders I met today is Andy. He's the guy who wins all the local comps. There's one in every city...

After all the madness that ensued at the Mash events, a crew of us decided to motivate ourselves to go lamp around in Dolores Park for the remainder of the afternoon. It was the first time I'd been to the park during the day (we were there at 4am the night before - I don't remember much) and I gotta say, it was something else! Here's Marc directing all bicycle traffic to the hang out spot.

Yesterday was my birthday. I'm now 30 years old and I still love to get out on my fixed freestyle with my homies. Hanging out with Puckett and AJ was exactly how I wanted to spend my day and we hit up my favorite spot in Austin: 5-hip.

The mark of a Sweathog! Yesterday was a real scorcher. AJ came into town early to beat the heat and by 11am, we had been riding for over an hour. We both wanted to get a few clips for our solo edits and we started off at 5-hip.

It's gettin warm here in Austin. That means one thing: sweat. And from sweat comes the Sweathogs. Today AJ and I rode this spot that I found a few weeks ago. It's right next to Barton Springs and with a nice water hole yards away, it was the perfect way to spend a warm and sunny day! We're filming some clips for our solo Milwaukee Bicycle Co. edits but I tried the best I could to shoot photos as well.

Today was a beast of a day. We were all out last night drinking and I had been on my road bike hard all week. Needless to say the last thing I wanted to do was ride around but with prospects of new spots on the horizon, I drank another cup of coffee and headed out on my fixed with Eric on his BMX.

"I'm not making a come-back". These words came out of Puckett's mouth last week, along with a ton of other memorable quotes. He may not be making a come-back but he's into riding fixed freestyle again, as evident here with this 180 flyout. We had a blast yesterday as we searched for some of Austin's drainage ditches to ride.

Damn I feel lucky right now. Today was an awesome day. I woke up, put up some posts and then took the hills for an ass-kicking good time. Since I can't take my DSLR with me on those rides, you'll have to wait for my 35mm photos to come back. After my ride, I met up with Puckett to go hit this bank spot in South Austin. He was on his BMX and I was on my Bruiser. We only rode for an hour or so but man was it fun.

I've always been for firm gun control. Growing up, guns were used to hunt and shoot clay pigeons. They were never to be toted around as some form of intimidation and you never pointed one at a human, even unloaded. Then I went to architecture school. A very left-wing architecture school where guns were to be destroyed. Living in NYC for the past 6 years, I can see why there's such strict gun control laws. Hell, I don't want people walking around with guns. They get in fights over Metrocards and stupid sports games.
Then I moved to Austin for the winter...

Yesterday marked a few firsts for me. It was the first time I had ridden my fixed freestyle bike since October. After moving to Austin, I've been eying up so many spots and a riding with Tony Fast last week got me pumped to get on the bike again. With the new Mishka Milwaukee Bruiser all built up, AJ Austin and I went riding. AJ's a fun dude to ride with. Super supportive and outgoing. We had a blast yesterday.

Yesterday was rad as hell. Puckett took Tony and I to Mable Davis Skatepark around noon and although it was raining on and off, the concrete was so dry that it just kinda absorbed the small amount of precipitation. Puckett was blasting 270's over this hip and we had the park pretty much to ourselves all day.

The hardest thing about leaving NYC for the winter was saying bye to all my friends. With the NAHBS on the way, many are heading down but with all big events, it's hard to get some quality "bro time" with friends which is why Tony decided to come down a little early to get out of the snow-covered Philly streets.
